Time is elastic

I'm taking these awesome classes online with Teen Vogue & Parsons, and they asked us to create a piece of jewelry from an unconventional object. So, I made a watch out of balloons and a chain link. My assignment was to figure out the production cost & record my findings on my blog! So here it is.

               (Production Chart)
Watch Face: $19.00
Pack of balloons:$4.99
Chain Strand: $5.00
Time/ Wage: 30mins @$9: $2.70
Total Production: $31.69
20% Profit: $63.38
Total Cost: $95.07
Estimated Cost: $15.00

So at the end of the day, my simple little balloon watch cost $95.07!  LOL. I asked my friends if they would pay $95.07 for a balloon watch, and they said "not really". (After laughing)
However, I completely understand because I wouldn't either! I mean, it did take me thirty minutes to make, and the materials mainly the watch face, was the most expensive, but it's still too high. We agreed that $15.00 was a better fit for this unique piece. My solution, is to research other craft stores for watch faces that cost less. What do you think? Would you pay this much for a watch made from a balloon?
